The Woodcarvers Studio
The Woodcarvers Studio is a finely crafted, timber-framed workspace set in the South Downs for sculptor and furniture maker Alison Crowther.
Alisons work in English oak is recognised internationally for its powerful, organic forms and deep connection to the landscape. The brief was to create a sustainable studio that could accommodate large-scale carving, detailed design work and timber storage, while sitting quietly and respectfully within its rural setting.
AIM worked as part of a close-knit team to help bring this vision to life, supporting the delivery of a traditionally framed oak building with carefully considered detailing, robust construction and a calm, functional interior. The result is a working environment that feels both purposeful and contemplative – a building that truly serves the craft it was designed for.
The project has been recognised in the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards, including the prestigious South Downs Award, which celebrates projects that make a positive contribution to the national park and its landscape. For AIM, it represents the kind of thoughtful, design-led collaboration we are proud to be part of within our specialist commercial and studio work.
