Grade II Listed Cottage – Finchdean
This Grade II listed cottage in Finchdean required a sensitive refurbishment and a carefully judged extension, with every decision centred on preserving the building’s original character.
The new structure needed to feel as though it had always been part of the cottage – respectful in scale, materials, and detailing. To achieve this, we sourced reclaimed red bricks, slates and handmade tiles to match the existing fabric, and used traditional lime mortars and lime renders throughout. Inside, original character was retained and reintroduced through hand-finished plasterwork, softened corners and the omission of modern angle beads – small but important details that preserve the cottage’s authentic feel.
The result is a calm, balanced blend of old and new: a cottage made fit for modern living while remaining true to its historic soul.
