Ironstone & Oak-Framed Extension – Minstead
This single-storey extension was designed to sit naturally alongside an existing barn conversion, with materials and proportions chosen to feel rooted in the original building.
The dwarf walls were built using locally sourced ironstone laid in traditional lime mortar, allowing the new masonry to blend quietly with the surrounding fabric. Above, a cut-and-pitched oak frame, oak feather-edge cladding and reclaimed handmade clay peg tiles give the exterior an authentic, rural character.
Inside, the extension becomes something more expressive. The exposed oak structure, carefully detailed joinery and traditional finishes create an interior that feels crafted, warm and full of presence – a real feature of the property and a contrast to the understated exterior.
The result is an addition that enhances the home both outside and within: respectful to its setting, yet rich in craftsmanship and character.
